Man Moving Into New House Discovers Pit Bull Locked Away in His Basement

One day, staff at Stray Rescue of St. Louis got a call that left them heartbroken. The call came from a man who was getting ready to move into his new house.

“I just bought a house and there is a pit bull chained up in the basement,” the new homeowner said. “I’m not sure how long it’s been down there.”

Rescuers wasted no time and came to the dog’s aid. They were told that a squatter had been staying there some time earlier, leaving behind garbage, debris, and a precious life. The poor thing was left all alone in the cold, dark basement. Fortunately, she was found before it was too late.

The pooch couldn’t hold back her happiness.

“When we opened the door to the basement and shined our flashlight down, we saw a wagging tail,” Natalie Thomson, the group’s communications director, said. “She was nearly choking herself as she was so excited to see us. When we freed her, she couldn’t stop jumping up and down and giving hugs.”

Nobody knows who left the dog behind or why. But they knew one thing: she wouldn’t have lasted if they were even a bit late.

“There was no food or water bowls that we could see,” Thomson said. “She was not spayed and had no microchip.”

But the dog was finally safe and she knew it as well. “Due to her excitement, we named her Jumping Bean!”

“Her personality is completely adorable,” Thomson said. “She loves everyone she meets and craves attention. She makes sure she is not ignored! She’s an energetic and very affectionate pup! She is so happy all the time.”
