Distracted driving claimed more than 3000 lives in the United States in 2017 alone. And one of the main culprits of distraction is texting while driving. Everyone knows that you need to be vigilant while driving for the safety of pedestrians, other vehicles, and yourself. Unfortunately, people continue to text even when they know they shouldn’t.
In May of 2013, Leslee Henson and her husband decided to go out for a casual stroll. They were heading towards the Sunbrooke golf course. But when they were walking by the pavement of Dixie Drive, something happened that changed their lives forever. A distracted driver who was driving over the speed limit ran into a car. But that is not where the story ends.
The car that the woman who was texting hit, spun out of control, and hit Leslee and her husband. Leslee’s husband died on impact while she sustained serious head injuries. Luckily, she survived, but the emotional trauma that she and her children have to live with the heartbreaking.
