Jimmy Stewart Reading A Heart-wrenching Poem About His Dog On The Tonight Show Will Melt Your Heart

Talk shows have been an integral part of spending leisure time for as long as we can remember. Although these days, we never sit through the whole show. Instead, we prefer to enjoy few bits in youtube compilations. But overall, these shows have been a great medium to get insights on our favorite actors; or any celebrity figures in general.

In the early sixties, NBC aired The Tonight Show, Starring Johnny Carson. It was funny, lively, and entertaining. During one of his, the renowned actor Jame Stewart read a heartwarming poem for his beloved dog. Jame wrote the poem in memories of his loving canine companion, “Beau”.

Jame even shares the encounter in the show. “It happened while I was shooting this movie.”, Steward said. His vet made the call, informing him about Beau’s critical situation. The vet even asked for permission to euthanize him. Steward requested to halt the procedure until he could say the final goodbye. Days after Beau’s passing, James recalled he could still feel him around. Almost like he was on the bed. Time and again, James would try to reach this feeling and pat his head.

The poem:

He never came to me when I would call
Unless I had a tennis ball,
Or he felt like it,
But mostly he didn’t come at all.
When he was young
He never learned to heel
Or sit or stay,
He did things his way.

Discipline was not his bag
But when you were with him things sure didn’t drag.
He’d dig up a rosebush just to spite me,
And when I’d grab him, he’d turn and bite me.
He bit lots of folks from day to day,
The delivery boy was his favorite prey.
The gas man wouldn’t read our meter,
He said we owned a real man-eater.
