Woman Sings “Hallelujah” During X Factor Finals, Haunting Cover Helps Her Win the Title

Hallelujah is one of the most famous songs in the world. Written by Leonard Cohen and released on his album Various Positions in 1984, the song achieved little initial success. However the song found greater acclaim when John Cale made his own rendition, which later inspired a recording by Jeff Buckley. The song rose in popularity after it was featured in the movie, Shrek. It has been used in various other films and television soundtracks.

After Cohen’s death last year, the classic experienced renewed interest and appeared on multiple international singles charts, also earning a position at the American Billboard Hot 100 for the first time.
