Blind Girl Stands at Free Throw Line for School Team – Watch Her Shot

In the age of social media, we’re used to seeing talented students do all sorts of incredible athletic feats. But here’s a girl whose video went viral just because she made one free throw.

High school junior Jules Hoagland of Zeeland, Michigan, isn’t like other basketball players on social media–she’s blind, so someone has to tap on the backboard so she can hear where the basket is. “I developed this eye condition after I was born, on my third birthday I lost my sight. I’m still dealing with trying to accept it,” she said.

Jules hasn’t let her condition hold her back: she’s learned to ski, use a scooter and play basketball. She’s on the Zeeland Unified Basketball team, a team for special needs players, but she has a helper when she shoots. “I still struggle with exactly where the basket is. If I have the stick tapping on the backboard, it helps me know exactly where the hoop is,” Hoagland said.

In the team’s last game of the season, some 2,000 people gathered in the gym to watch, and Jules took the shot. Watch what happens in the video clip below and tell us what you think of Jules in the comments.
