Judy Garland portrayed the main character Dorothy in the movie adaptation. She was only 17 years old at the time, but the role turned out to be her most famous role ever. Apart from her stellar acting, Garland was also known for her amazing voice. The song was written by Yip Harburg for the movie. It has become Garland’s signature song, and one of the best songs of the 20th century. The movie was nominated for six Academy awards too.
