Soldiers have to leave at harsh life. They have to stay away from friends and family for long periods of time. The physical and mental strain on them is hard, and they even have to put their lives on the line for the sake of their country. Some are not so fortunate, and lose their lives in the line of battle or are severely injured.
The soldier in this story, Simon Brown, had served in the army for 13 years. Things took a scary turn for him one day when he was shot by a sniper while on a mission in Iraq in 2006. A bullet had pierced through his face, and it had left him blind. He was out of the army, and the injury had left him very disfigured as well. He was in a conversation with a five year old girl named Temperance.
Temperance might be young, but she is not to be taken lightly. She ran 100 meters and even took part in a triathlon in a charity event dedicated to soldiers. When Brown asked why she did it, she said that she didn’t know the soldiers well, but always thought that they were doing something for her. That’s why she wanted to give something back to them. She took on the challenge of riding her bike even thought she was really scared.
Her bold and courageous attitude really let a mark on the soldier. It seems like they are good friends!
