LOG CABIN COMFORT
The design crowd is staying warm under classic wool camp blankets this winter
Dressing in classic heritage brands and styles seems to be a trend that's here to stay, as smart young consumers have come to realize that a classic barn jacket will probably prove to be a better investment than a shaggy faux fur bomber. (We've been loving the celebration of Sesame Street's anniversary as much as the next Big Bird fan, but the Snuffleupagus look is best left to Jim Henson's Creature Shop.) Now, that same trend for timeless wares is lending itself to home interiors. Even the most urban domestics are decking out their domiciles in rustic accessories plucked straight from a camp log cabin, with one key piece as of late being the wool camp blanket. Here's a look at three styles we want to hunker down with, hot cocoa in hand, this winter:
Native American: Lusting after that Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony coat but not sure how practical short sleeves will be come February? Get cozy under a classic Pendleton blanket instead. The heavyweight wool may be warmer than your down comforter that drops more feathers on the floor than you do dirty socks. Plus, unlike that dream catcher hanging on your wall, these blankets will serve a functional purpose long after the Navajo print trend is over.
Hudson Bay Stripes: These traditional preppy throws practically beg for a golden retriever to shed hair on them. The iconic white blankets - adorned with red, yellow, green and navy stripes - date back to the 18th and 19th centuries when they were traded to Native Americans and First Nations in exchange for beaver pelts. Fortunately, now you can just throw one into your shopping cart while stocking up on duck boots at L.L.Bean .
Army Blankets: For some people, it's a jean jacket, for others, a hoodie; but our second skin is a silky soft threadbare vintage Army shirt. Since wearing it as a pajama top may endanger its longevity, we're considering this snuggly bedding equivalent. But if army green doesn't match your curtains, check out these vintage Swiss Army blankets . They're certainly pricier than the American counterpart, but at least when you crawl under the covers at night, you can pretend like you just spent the day hitting the slopes in the Alps.
