PARTY TIME! EXCELLENT!
The latest trend in home decor is making every day a celebration
From what we've been noticing on design blogs lately, you no longer need a holiday to adorn your abode in party decorations. While college kids have been decking out their rooms with Christmas lights since the invention of the dorm, it seems that adults are now recognizing the merits of residing amidst permanent festivity. There's certainly nothing wrong with hitting up Party City for a few spools of crepe paper, but if you're looking to make your home look like a contender for The Selby rather than the nest of a one-year-old's Big Bird birthday party, check out these more mature, yet just as merry, design accessories:
Bunting: Who knew the stuff that typically signals a car dealership's grand opening or the World Series could be such a smart domestic accent? No longer limited to the gaudy plastic variety, fabric bunting is being draped across the ceilings, walls, doorways and windows of hip lofts like this enviable one in Copenhagen. (Can we move in? Please?) Savvy DIYers are upcycling fabric scraps into cheerful executions of the cosmic triangle trend, as seen in the shops of a number of Etsy sellers, like this one . And although it's sold by children's shop Little Bean, you don't need a rug rat underfoot to enjoy the autumnal palette of this one .
Paper Flowers: The last time we made these was probably during a Valentine's Day project in third grade art class. Hopefully, our dexterity with tissue paper has risen to the advanced level since then, as we've been ogling the way the design crowd has been so artfully pleating and fluffing handcrafted floral arrangements these days. Since we don't have the budget (or electrical wiring) for a real chandelier, we're thinking one of these may be just the thing our dining room, er, nook, needs to keep us from going out for pizza every other night.
Piñatas: While it may be tempting to dump your Halloween leftovers into the belly of a paper mache donkey, maybe you should just indulge your sweet tooth instead. The latest piñatas, too magnificent to be smashed with a baseball bat, are more like museum installations than fiesta centerpieces. Confetti System's Crystal Piñata is the perfect space-age sculpture for those who want the sparkles of a mirror ball without encouraging the debauchery of Studio 54.
