Our beloved online brands get an extreme home makeover
From the moment our eyelids crack open to the second they droop closed, we're busy texting, tweeting, typing, friending, Googling, and pretty much living our lives tethered to technology. With so much time spent in the digital space, it has, in a sense, become our virtual home. But, some people are coming up with ways to do the reverse - taking the digital brands we know and love into their actual homes. Here are a few of our favorite of these tech-orative objects.
Google Pillows: In bold black and white, these pillows make quite the statement on your couch. Artist Elodie Blanchard's limited edition collection of comfy pop culture scrapbooks include four pillows (each representing one year, from 2005-2008), which feature the top ten Google search terms of that year. The lists give a great snapshot into the collective mind of the digital space with words like "Iran" sandwiched in-between "Paris Hilton" and "Vanessa Hudgens." These trendy pieces are sure to be great conversation starters now and will definitely elicit nostalgia, along with impromptu trivia battles, in years to come.
Tweet Stitch: Youheart.us blogger Juile Zidel, an avid Twitter fan and talented cross-stitcher, felt the tweets she was following were too good not to sew them into permanence. Thus Tweet Stitch was born as a way to immortalize her favorite actual tweets. It features fully rendered tweets in colorful thread, complete with a photo avatar. In addition to quirky quips from celebrities, Zidel is also taking requests from 'average Joe' tweeters. Just think... You can memorialize that tweet about the best tuna fish sandwich you ever had until the end of time!
Icon Pillows: These cute little cushions, featuring punchy colors in soft felt, let you cuddle with your favorite online brand icons. The Craftsquatch sews up a bevy of the most beloved images, allowing Twitter fans to rest their tired heads on the Fail Whale, Twitter Bird, and little t. Facebook fans can squeeze the Friend Feed or the little f, and MySpace members can lounge next to MySpace 'people.' We happen to admire the clean, modern lines and stark color contrast of the RSS feed symbol, which happens to be Craftsquatch's best seller. Now, you can take social-notworking to the next level, simply by dozing on your couch.
