BEAUTY SUBSCRIPTIONS
New product sampling services
In the past we've written about the growing trend of tryvertising, referencing Japan's sampling salons and market research companies, such as SheSpeaks, that seed sample-sized products to a sample of "real" women for feedback and reviews. Now with the launch of two sample services Stateside, the concept is becoming a bona fide business.

TestTube:
is NewBeauty magazine's sampling program that, for a quarterly fee of $29.95, sends subscribers a selection of product samplings from brands such as Estee Lauder, Dr. Brandt, and SuperSmile. Members are encouraged, but not required, to evaluate products online and can opt out of the program at any time.

Beautyfix:
offers a similar program for product junkies who don't mind paying a little bit more ($50/pop) for a quarterly selection of full-sized personal care products that have been curated by a panel of beauty industry experts and bloggers. With a more traceable methodology behind it, beauty brands submit potential products to be tested by members of Beautyfix's advisory panel (comprised of a dozen or so high profile make-up artists, beauty editors, bloggers, and skincare specialists) on an ongoing basis and only the best products make it to the mailboxes of members, who are encouraged (but again, not required) to contribute to the community message boards. Unlike NewBeauty's TestTube, Beautyfix memberships are "limited" (on a first come, first serve basis) and can also be "gifted" to fellow beauty buffs.
