The best new web series, an iPhone app that gives back, and graffiti that won’t get you arrested
Rockville, CA : If you are a fan of Gossip Girl and love the music on Grey's Anatomy, then get ready for what is sure to be your new latest obsession, Rockville, CA. A series of twenty webisodes created by Josh Schwartz (Gossip Girl, Chuck, The O.C.) and noted music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas (Twilight, Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, The O.C.), Rockville is the first web series of its kind, marrying what you love about all of your favorite TV entertainment into one highly-addictive web series. With each episode featuring a new band performing two live performances on the "Rockville" stage, the site allows fans to engage with the series by sharing/embedding the performances on their social media sites, view character playlists and then purchase the songs via a link to iTunes.
iPhorest : While we are mildly obsessed with iPhone apps that let us plan our wardrobes, determine where to eat, and stream awesome radio stations, our latest favorite find leverages technology for good in the greatest sense of the word. In association with Ecolife Apparel and The Conservation Fund, the iPhorest application enables the user to plant a tree. Upon downloading, the user activates a seedling both virtually and physically, and for each virtual tree planted, The Conservation Fund will plant a native tree in real life - starting with the restoration of vulnerable wildlife habitats along the Gulf Coast in the United States. With interactive features that allow you to dig a hole for your tree, water your seedling and connect to a world map to see other users, it has never been easier (or more fun) to give back.
Grateful Graffiti : Born out of a desire to "tag the town positive," Nell Alano and Sandy Abrams created this colorful line of one-of-a-kind magnets. Unlike Krylon-sprayed graffiti, these magnets can be moved around, so that you can opt to move your favorite graphics with you from, say, the fridge to the car. While they certainly offer a reminder of positivity to frustrated drivers stuck in traffic, they feed the world with even more than that, literally: A portion of proceeds from each Grateful Graffiti item sold goes towards USA Harvest .
