NEW BEAUTY TRENDS
Pumped lashes and subtly stained lips
Latisse: You won't catch us using glaucoma drugs to amp our lashes any more than you'll find us sticking needles in our face to erase wrinkles, but pharmaceutical analysts are predicting that this new eyelash stimulant will be "the next Botox." The product contains Lumigan, the ingredient used in eye drops for glaucoma, and is said to make eyelashes both longer and more voluminous. Even though side effects may include red and/or itchy eyes, we're willing to bet that the cosmetic enhancement-inclined will consider the $120/month drug a small price to pay for "real" false eyelashes.
Protein Mascara: For those scared by Latisse, a number of science-driven cosmetic brands, such as Fusion Beauty and Talika, are pushing a less intrusive version of the pumped-up lash trend. These enhanced formulas are like conditioner for eyelashes, making them stronger so that they can grow faster.
Lip Stains: What started with cult product Benetint has evolved into its own product category. Formerly made primarily by higher-end companies such as Vincent, lip stains are now hitting drugstores. CoverGirl's new Outlast Lipstain is flying off the shelves, with beauty bloggers giving it rave reviews. And come spring, the harsh matte lip of this winter will be softening up with water-based colors more appropriate for the warm weather.
