INAUGURATION MARKETING
Brands take advantage of the positive energy surrounding today’s historical event
The excitement, hope, and anticipation surrounding today's historic presidential inauguration is shared by brands around the world. In an effort to show their support, a variety of companies are using the inauguration as a theme in marketing campaigns. These are three of our favorites to join the party:
Ben & Jerry's: For the month of January, Ben & Jerry's original Butter Pecan has been given a new name paying tribute to the Obama campaign slogan: Yes, Pecan!. Sold exclusively in Scoop Shops around the country, proceeds go to the Common Cause Education Fund , a non-profit that provides a platform for citizens to make their voices heard in the political machine.
IKEA: The Swedish home furnishings giant's Embrace Change campaign focuses on the presidential family's move to the White House, with a site that allows visitors to re-decorate the Oval Office. Loved for their public pop-up decor displays, IKEA also has furnished an Oval Office replica, set up inside the Main Hall in D.C.'s Union Station. And last week, an IKEA-fied motorcade rolled through the D.C. area boasting cars with "furniture fit for a president" strapped to the hoods.
Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme: Americans love their donuts, and they'll get to celebrate the inauguration with the sweet treat in two different ways. Part of a campaign called You Kin' Do It, Dunkin' Donuts fans can now indulge in a frosted Stars & Stripes donut, complete with red, white, and blue star sprinkles. Those in select markets (DC included) can purchase a medium hot coffee or hot chocolate and get the 89 cent donut for a mere 44 cents in honor of our 44th president. Those who prefer Krispy Kreme can treat themselves to a free donut of their choice at select locations today.
