TWEEN TRENDS TO KNOW

KidsRx:
Drawing inspiration from Mary Poppins, NYC's KidsRx is literally adding a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down! The pharmacy caters to all members of the family - big, small, and even furry - and while it still follows doctors' orders, it also customizes medications to make them more appealing to kids. Pharmacists can tailor the color, flavor (cherry, vanilla, etc.) and form (gummy bears, lollipops, pudding) of anything from ibuprofen to codeine. This type of medicinal customization may be the start of a much bigger trend; we wouldn't be surprised to see more mainstream drugstores incorporating some of these creative practices. KidsRx accepts insurance and ships worldwide.

JustJaredJr.com:
As Hollywood gets younger, so do the fans: It's not uncommon to see a tween peeking over her mom's shoulder at a celebrity gossip mag or website - and now they won't have to share! The people behind the popular gossip site JustJared.com launched a junior version catering to tweens and teens who are dying to know who Zac Efron is kissing, what Selena Gomez wore to her movie premiere, or just about anything having to do with The Jonas Brothers.

How to Talk to Girls
:
Fourth grader Alec Greven wrote this dating guide when he noticed the difficulty some of his classmates had when talking to the opposite sex; the resulting book has since launched a mini entertainment empire. Greven's book was initially a success at his school book fair (where it sold for $3 a pop), after which he was invited to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The TV appearance lead to a publishing deal with HarperCollins, and 20th Century Fox recently optioned the film rights. While getting love counsel from a 9-year-old is certainly novel, the success of his book is in part because it's actually good advice for all ages; some of the best tips are "give gifts," "control your hyperness," and "don't wear sweatpants." Greven's next project is reportedly another guide book, How to Talk to Moms, which will include tips for both kids and their parents.
