Shaolin Chinese Sneakers, Lolita Sunglasses, and Fascinators Plus: New York Reality TV School
|
Shaolin Chinese Sneakers:
These simple canvas sneakers have been popular in China since the '20s and have recently gained a small, cultish following Stateside. The shoes' durability, comfort and flexible soles made them the choice footwear for Shaolin monks who wore them when practicing Kung Fu and Tai Chi. While they are still worn by martial artists, it's their simple, classic style - akin to American mainstays such as Converse All Stars and Keds - that resonates with fashionistas (both male and female) today. The Chinese-turned-French relaunch brand Feiyu is particularly popular, especially now that they offer designer collaborations of classic styles. The best part: these sneaks retail for just $15.

Lolita Sunglasses:
While sunglasses have always been a cool fashion accessory for young people, 2008 seems to be their year to shine. No longer limiting themselves to just one or two pairs, young people are cultivating a larger wardrobe of shades to satisfy their multitude of occasions, styles and moods. This summer, some of the hottest shades to hit the streets are the heart-shaped "Lolita"-style sunglasses. While we recommended them as a Valentine's Day Gift, they're perfect for everyday wear as they're flirty, whimsical and sure to set the wearer apart from the scores of Kanye wannabes. Check out styles from Topshop and Urban Outfitters.

Fascinators: A fancy headpiece usually adorned with feathers, flowers or beads and attached to the head with a hair comb, clip or headband, fascinators are a fancy headgear alternative to the bowler and fedora hats that have been popular for the last couple years. Sarah Jessica Parker recently received attention for the opulent green fascinator she wore to the London premier of Sex and The City, they've become a popular trendsetter pick on crafty shopping site Etsy, and prices for the vintage variety are skyrocketing on eBay. A great thing about this trend is that fascinators, while beautiful, are easy enough to make yourself: pick up a kit or check out these step-by-step instructions.
