WINTER BEAUTY TRENDS
Acrylic Nails, Bobbed Hair, Cat Eyes Plus: On-demand Olympics
|
Acrylic Nails: Thanks in part to the popularity of Kid Sister’s single “Pro Nails”, urbanistas have been heading to manicurists in droves to get their “nails did.” Like other elements of the Chonga chic beauty trend, the more conspicuous the design the better: think bright colors, art decals, and charms. For those who aren’t ready to commit to acrylics, jewelry line Bijules has launched a line of gold nail rings.

Bobbed Hair:
Popularized by Rihanna, Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham (whose hairstyle was dubbed “The Pob” a.k.a The Posh Bob), bobbed hair is also becoming a major trend outside of the celebrity world, as we’re noticing more women exchange long locks for lighter ‘dos in the new year. While bobs have long been a classic hairstyle, the cut is versatile and of late has been reinvented in a myriad of looks: sharp angles and clean lines for sophistication or textured and shaggy for a funkier look

Cat Eyes: Inspired by Amy Winehouse’s dramatic Cleopatra-like eye makeup, cat eyes have become the makeup trend of the moment. Infiltrating both high and low end fashion circles, these seductive eyes were recently seen on the runways of Louis Vuitton and Prada, and more subtle versions have been worn on the red carpet by celebs such as Angelina Jolie and Lily Allen. Hitting the streets in equal force, some trendsetters are even swapping the traditional black liner for bright neon shades. And by the way: Japanese marketing company Hime & Company recently announced that staff members are allowed to take "heartache leave" when faced with a break-up. Employees ages 24 and under are given one such day off per year, 25- to 29-year-olds can take two, and those older can take three days recovery time.
